Skin & Allergy Care for Dogs and Cats

Itching, scratching, chewing, and licking in pets are most commonly caused by allergies to environmental allergens such as pollen, grasses, weeds, mold spores, and dust mites. These allergies—often referred to as atopic dermatitis—are chronic conditions that persist throughout a pet’s life. While they cannot be cured, our goal is to manage the symptoms, maintain healthy skin, and improve your pet’s comfort and quality of life.

Other common causes of skin issues include flea allergies and food sensitivities. During your pet’s visit, we will discuss their symptoms, environment, and lifestyle history to determine the most likely underlying cause. From there, we’ll tailor a management plan using the wide range of treatment options available—always focusing on what best fits your pet and your family’s needs.

We are passionate about involving pet owners in the long-term care of allergic skin disease. Our approach emphasizes at-home care and prevention, and we’ll equip you with the tools and knowledge to manage your pet’s skin health between visits. When flare-ups happen or home treatments are no longer effective, we’re here to provide additional support, advanced treatments, and prescription medications to help control symptoms.

Ear infections are also frequently related to environmental allergies. These, too, may require seasonal or lifelong management, and we’re committed to helping you recognize early signs, prevent flare-ups, and maintain healthy ears—reducing the need for emergency visits and discomfort for your pet.

Depending on your pet’s clinical signs and exam findings, we may recommend additional testing such as:

● Skin scrapings or cytology

● Fungal or bacterial cultures

● Bloodwork or urinalysis

● Food elimination trials

● Biopsies in more complex or persistent cases

If you notice your dog or cat is excessively scratching, licking, chewing, or developing bald patches, scabs, redness, or recurrent ear infections, please contact us. Early diagnosis and a well-structured treatment plan can make a significant difference in your pet’s lifelong comfort and well-being.

The best care for your best friend!
