Pain in pets is often under-recognized, and it doesn’t always look like it does in people. Subtle signs like reluctance to move, behavior changes, or decreased appetite can all indicate discomfort. That’s why we take pain seriously—and always start with a thorough medical evaluation to identify the cause before deciding on a treatment plan.
Please never give your pet human pain relievers—many common over-the-counter medications (such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and naproxen) are toxic to dogs and cats and can cause severe harm or even be fatal.
Fortunately, we have safe, effective pain management options for both acute and chronic pain in pets. These include oral medications, anti-inflammatory drugs, and even long-acting injectable treatments that provide relief for up to a month. For pets with arthritis or mobility issues, there’s also strong evidence supporting non-medication therapies like laser treatment, which can reduce inflammation and support healing.
In more advanced cases, we may refer your pet for additional support services such as rehabilitation, acupuncture, or physical therapy. Every pet is different, and we’ll work with you to find a tailored approach that best supports your pet’s comfort and quality of life.
If you think your pet may be in pain—or if you’d like to learn more about treatment options—please call us to schedule a consultation.
